We stayed three weeks at Little Barn, Hutt Dairy -- no problems with Dorset Coastal Cottages, per se, but some issues with the cottage itself.+ves: ingenious use of limited spaces; good lighting and kitchen appliances; generously large sofa; homey, welcoming touches like a selection of locally-themed books; the place very clean on arrival; housekeeper Lorraine indispensably helpful.-ves: inadequate supply of hot water, likewise the instructions (!?) for obtaining it in not specifying the timing of the necessary so-called boost; vague adjustment of interior heat in the absence of central heating; the liberal supply of cutlery curiously included a selection of completely useless kitchen knives (putting it bluntly); no bathroom evacuation fan; the shower dribbled continuously, evidently not fixed for many weeks; coming from Canada without cell phone, we found the inability to call out a significant inconvenience -- e.g. when trying to get the housekeeper's help with the unexpected limitations and frustrations of the hot water system. Conclusion: some basic functions need an upgrade. With startlingly noisy agricultural activity starting outside the window at 0500, and the alarm on the cottage across the way occasionally going off at random in the night, we could not recommend Little Barn for anyone seeking a reliably quiet, peaceful country getaway, with the modern conveniences that, in Canada at least, would generally be taken for granted. Next visit, we'll look further. M.W.
We stayed in a lovely cottage close to Durdle Door, which was a regular childhood haunt for us so brought back great memories. Our group travelled with bikes and 2 dogs with the property, location and the stunning Jurassic coast just perfect. Dorset Coastal Cottages themselves were a pleasure to deal with and provided great service as well as local knowledge. Will definitely use them again.
We have booked through Dorset Coastal Cottages many times and they provide an excellent service...always easy to book with helpful staff (they will always try to get our 2 dogs into the cottage of our choice!) the website easy to use with good clear photos and accurate descriptions. Stayed in many cottages booked through them and they have always been fantastic. We try to go to Dorset twice a year and always check out their website first! Will continue using them until the happy day arrives that we can finally move down there!!!!
We have booked many holidays over the years with Dorset Coastal Cottages. Staff are always very friendly and I don't get too many marketing emails throughout the year either which is great. Just 1 annoyance is that when I phone to book the same cottage with the same details - I phone them and they find my details on the system so I don't need to tell them anything else, do the provisional booking then they email me a link for the online booking form where I have to enter name, address etc. all over again! It would be great if this could be made more efficient. Overall a great service and the cottages are great and well looked after.
Stayed in a beautifully quaint cottage not far from the coast for a recent family get-together. The team were really helpful when I booked as we had a couple of things that we wanted sorted ahead of our arrival, which the housekeeper duly had arranged. Would definitely recommend the company and their properties to anyone looking for a traditional country cottage in Dorset. Also if you're taking your pet along, be sure to ask the team about some of the best walks along the coast - many of them are dog owners so they know all the best ones!
